Year 7

Course Content

This course introduces students to the study of Christianity and World Faiths. It considers the different religions represented in school, the community and the wider world. There are four units of study.

Unit 1. What is RS? An introduction to the themes and concepts of R.S. including signs, symbols and stories, and religion in the community.

Unit 2. Judaism. A study of a Western mono-theistic faith focusing on its beliefs and practices.

Unit 3. Individual student study on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Unit 4. Hinduism. A study of Eastern religious beliefs and practice.

Students are expected to show respect and understanding of the views of others and to reflect upon their own experiences.

Homework is set once a week and usually follows on from work done in class.

Students' progress is assessed throughout the year by the class teacher, through their classwork, and formally at the end of each unit. Students also self-assess their own work using the R.S. levels.

Group Organisation/Setting

Year 7 students are taught in all ability tutor groups, and remain with their tutor group for the whole year.

  • Encourage her to read widely about different religions and beliefs, point out religious and cultural venues in the local area.
  • Encourage use of the school and public library.
  • You may be able to offer information about your religion or community; if so, please contact your daughter's R.S. teacher.
