The Governing Body

The primary function of the governors in any school is to decide the school's main policies. These policies are then implemented by the Principal, who is in charge of the day-to-day running of the school and answerable to the governors.

Burntwood became a grant maintained school in January 1992, and a Foundation school in September 1999. This means that the school works with the Local Authority (LA) on funding issues but governors retain responsibility for admissions, employment of staff and ownership of the school buildings and equipment. In order to carry out these responsibilities, the governors work closely with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team.

The Governing Body has twenty members; five partnership governors, seven elected parent governors, three staff governors, the Principal, two community governors and two governors appointed by the LA.

If you have any issues you would like to discuss, the Governing Body are always be happy to hear from you and, if necessary, support you on matters which fall within their remit.
