Burntwood’s Big Walk to School - 12th March 2012
Eighty students, accompanied by staff and families, walked from the Rwanda High Commission in Central London to Burntwood on March 10th. Linda Kalimba, First Counsellor at the Rwanda High Commission with responsibility for Education, sent Burntwood’s walkers, headed by Mrs Dorfman, on their way at 10am with words of support and encouragement.
Three hours later, all the walkers arrived at Burntwood, tired but elated. The ‘Big Walk’ was to raise money to help fund the education of the two Rwandan girls supported by Burntwood, Claudine and Anathalie. The distance walked reflects the length of walk that many school children in Rwanda have to undertake every day to get to school. So far, the fantastic sum of £1156 has been raised. Burntwood School has a ‘Just Giving’ page, which can be found at http://www.justgiving.com/burntwoods-big-walk-to-school.
