Burntwood’s Silver Anniversary Celebration - 25th September 2011
This month, Burntwood School is celebrating 25 years of success. A day of festivities was held on Saturday the 17th September.
Throughout the day, current and former students, staff and governors gathered to meet up with old friends, exchange memories of their time at Burntwood, view displays from Burntwood’s archive and take a last look around the school before It is transformed under its extensive programmed of rebuilding.
Burntwood’s chamber choir is also celebrating its 25th birthday. In 1986, when Mayfield School and Garratt Green School amalgamated to form Burntwood School, the best initiatives from both schools were incorporated into the new school’s ethos. Mayfield’s choir, run by Debbie Lammin, was one such initiative. The Burntwood Chamber Choir has gone from strength to strength, providing students with unique experiences and opportunities to which they otherwise would not have access. Past and present members of the Chamber Choir joined forces to become the Silver Anniversary Choir and performed two pieces in the evening’s celebratory concert.
The event also raised £566 for the Commonwealth Countries’ League Education Fund. Burntwood is currently sponsoring two girls in Rwanda so that they can stay in Secondary education. If you were unable to attend the Celebration, but would like your name to be added to Burntwood’s new ‘alumni database’, please email Charles Harper at charles.harper@burntwood.wandsworth.sch.uk.
