The Library has held a number of events throughout this academic year. Here is a list of some of the events.
Sophie McKenzie visited Burntwood about how she got into writing after doing a creative writing course.
Bali Rai visited Burntwood and talked to Year 8 students about his new book, ‘Killing Honour’. He also spoke to Year 7 about his book ‘Revenge of number two’, a story about bullying in a secondary school.
Sixty Year 7 students attended the Library’s ‘Friday Night Fears’ party on the 14th of October. The Year 7s thoroughly enjoyed an evening of spooky games, competitions and stories followed by pizza and a movie
This month, author Mary Hooper visited Burntwood School to talk to Year 7 students about her new historical novel, ‘Velvet’, a romantic thriller set in Victorian London.
This month, 55 of the students who took part in this year’s Carnegie Medal reading group enjoyed a trip to locations near to the River Thames to explore links between literature, poetry and art.
Caroline Lawrence, author of the very popular ‘Roman Mysteries’ series of books, visited Burntwood this month. She spoke first to the whole of Year 7 and then to Latin students in Years 8 and 9 about her writing techniques and how she uses ancient Roman sources to develop her characters and plots. Students thoroughly enjoyed the talk.
Author Julia Golding visited Burntwood in February. She spoke first to the FAB Reading Group, answering a variety of questions on being an author including how to get work published.
On Friday 21st January, Burntwood students thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the School by performance poet, Neal Zetter. As well as writing and performing his own poetry, Neal runs workshops across London on how the power of poetry can inspire confidence, self-expression and self-esteem.
Karen McCombie, author of the very popular ‘Ally’s World’ and ‘Stella Etc’ series of books, visited Burntwood last month. She talked to students in Years 7 and 8 about her writing and about her change of career from journalist and magazine editor to full time author.
Stationery is now sold in the Library at very competitive prices. This includes pens, pencils, protractors, rulers and book covers for A4 and A5 exercise books. French, Spanish and English dictionaries are also available.
