TfL is restructuring the school bus routes 689 and 690. This will be effective from 3rd September 2011. Please find attached letter from TfL with detailed information on each of these routes. If you require any further information please get in touch with TfL, contact details can be found in the letter.
On Monday 4th July, Burntwood will host and run the inaugural B-MaTH challenge for primary schools. Eight local schools have entered two teams of Year 6 pupils; a Beavers team for enthusiastic mathematicians and an Owls team for able mathematicians. The Maths challenge will take the form of a treasure hunt. Using team work and mathematical knowledge, teams will have to solve a range of practical and engaging mathematical problems to find the elusive treasure!
Recently teachers who are members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and the National Union of Teachers have been balloted on taking industrial action (a one day strike) on Thursday 30th June 2011. The ballots have been overwhelmingly in favour of this. The action will result in class or whole school closure across the country.
Former Burntwood staff and students were among the many visitors who viewed this year’s Art and Photography End of Year Shows. The Shows, held on 22nd June, featured A Level and GCSE work of an incredibly high standard.
Visitors were treated to a dazzling display that included painting, photography, sculpture and film on a range of themes. Many of the artists were on hand to talk passionately to visitors about their pieces. An online gallery of students’ work will soon be available to view on our website.

This month, Burntwood’s Year 7 Student Council representatives visited Wandsworth Town Hall to meet with Mayor of Wandsworth Councillor Jane Cooper.

Burntwood students Emily Cunningham, Year 13, and Priscilla Mensah, Year 12, both winners of the ‘Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship’ debating competition were invited by the US Embassy to attend President Obama’s address to Members of both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 24th May.
Sports Day was a fantastic success. With sunny if somewhat windy weather, staff and students had a very enjoyable and competitive day. There were some excellent results with lots of record breaking scores.
I am writing to inform you that following a final Year Assembly this morning, Year 11 students are on exam leave. They are only required to attend school for examinations.
