Year 9 Students Take Part In Youth Advisory Council

Following their success in the attorney General’s youthnet competition, year 9 students took up their places on the AG Youth Advisory Council in December. The first meeting of the Council was held at the House of Lords with Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, in the Chair and was opened with messages of support from The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and the Home Secretary Alan Johnson.

The Attorney General’s Youth Advisory Council has been set up to involve students in the processes of government and law and its first meeting addressed a number of serious issues concerning young people. Tackling knife crime, domestic violence and human rights were the items on the Agenda and Burntwood students debated these with confidence and made valuable contributions to the discussion.

The Year 9s enjoyed the experience and feel honored that their views are helping to influence the shape of government policy and how it affects young people
