Admissions Policy 2012 - 2013

Burntwood admits 283 students to Year 7 each year.

The criteria for the admission of students to Year 7 in September are as follows:

Category 1 Places

71 places allocated by reference to general ability to those applicants with the highest scores in the Wandsworth Year 6 Test.

Category 2

The remaining 212 places to be allocated as follows, in this order:

  1. Girls Looked After.
  2. Applicants with a professionally supported exceptional medical or social need for a place at the school, as decided by the Governing Body.
    1. Girls not admitted under Category 1, who have a sibling attending the school on the date of admission, and whose sibling was:
      1. admitted under Category 1 or Category 2 before September 2008; or
      2. admitted under Category 2 from September 2008: or
      3. admitted under Category 1 from September 2008, but whose address was within the distance from the school which would have qualified for a Category 2 place on the date of their admission.
    2. Proximity of the girl’s home to the school, measured by the shortest walking route with street lighting as measured by the Council’s Geographical Information System, with those living nearest being given the highest proximity.

All applicants will apply on an equal footing, and will not need to specify under which category they are applying.

For 283 places available in September 2011, 824 applications were received by the deadline, 31st October 2010.

Appeal Arrangements

Applicants refused a place at the school will have the right appeal to an independent admission appeal panel established under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
