It is with pleasure I write to you as this term draws to a close. Since April we have seen major progress on the three buildings that form phase 1 of our project, and we are already planning the opening of the Sports Hall at the end of February. The new entrance building and the maths and science block will be ready for occupation in the summer of 2012.
Recently the majority of unions of which school based staff are members have been balloted on taking industrial action (a one day strike) on Wednesday 30th November 2011. The ballots have been overwhelmingly in favour of this. The action will result in class or whole school closure across the country.
Another successful academic year draws to a close at Burntwood, a year that has seen momentous developments for us. This year has seen the start of a three year building programme that is going to transform the school whilst retaining our very individual and exciting character.

This term we have again celebrated many successes including an Awards Evening for outstanding students which was held at the Civic Suite in Wandsworth, as well as an excellent drama production of ‘Shooting Truth’ by Molly Davies.

This month, Burntwood School is pleased to support ‘Movember’. The ‘Movember Foundation’ works in partnership with The Prostate Cancer Charity in order to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
This term we will be running a trial where we will slightly change the times of lessons within the school day. The start and the end of the day will remain unchanged.
We have delayed confirming the final arrangements for the end of this year and the start of school in September in order to ensure that our arrangements mean that there is minimum disruption to the school year next year when we are still expecting to start on the exciting redevelopment of Burntwood.
We have identified that you may be entitled to a Home Access Grant, as your daughter XXXX is currently receiving free school meals. Home Access is a government programme that helps eligible low-income families to buy a computer and internet access to support learning at home. The programme is for families in England.
