Exploring Medical Ethics - 30th November 2011
On Friday 25th November, Sir Donald Irvine, retired doctor and chairman of the healthcare charity Picker Institute Europe, visited Burntwood to talk to Year 13 Religious Studies students.
He gave a fascinating account of his own experiences as a family doctor and as president of the General Medical Council from 1995 to 2001, a time of upheaval in British medical practice.
Sir Donald explained the development of current ethical standards in British medicine, contributing his own viewpoint to a number of topical issues. Students also had the opportunity to ask his opinion on a range of medical ethical matters currently studied by them as part of the RS A-level course.
