Sixth Formers Invited to Hear President Obama’s speech - 26th May 2011

Burntwood students Emily Cunningham, Year 13, and Priscilla Mensah, Year 12, both winners of the ‘Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship’ debating competition were invited by the US Embassy to attend President Obama’s address to Members of both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 24th May.

On arrival, they were thrilled to discover they were seated on the stage next to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The students found the event both overwhelming and inspiring, however, no sooner had the speech finished than they were rushed to a quiet alcove in the Palace of Westminster where they took part in a live radio interview, broadcast on the BBC World Service, on their reaction to the speech.
