A Level Physicists visit CERN

In February a group of enthusiastic A Level Physics students embarked on an exciting trip to CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland, one of the world’s most prestigious research facilities. This trip allowed students to explore cutting-edge scientific research in particle physics, offering them an invaluable insight into the concepts they study in class and helping to spark curiosity about potential future careers in science and engineering.

During their visit, students took part in a series of informative tours and interactive workshops. They were given the chance to explore CERN’s facilities, including the Large Hadron Collider and the experiments conducted there. Experts from CERN explained how particle accelerators work, how data is collected and analysed, and how ground-breaking discoveries are made. Students also had the unique opportunity to speak with researchers and learn about the latest advancements in particle physics, including the hunt for dark matter and the search for new particles.

This trip was not only a fascinating educational experience but also a valuable stepping stone for students considering a future in physics, engineering, or other STEM fields. The trip sparked excitement about pursuing advanced studies in fields like particle physics, astrophysics, and engineering. Furthermore, interacting with professionals in the field, provided students with valuable networking opportunities and insight into potential career paths. With many Burntwood students choosing to pursue university courses in STEM subjects, the trip to CERN gave students a tangible example of the career possibilities that await them.
