Most Able Provision
Burntwood School’s provision for our Most Able Students is consistent with our aim to provide ‘the best education today for the women of tomorrow’ and nurtures the abilities and talents of all students. We are committed to fostering a stimulating learning environment, where high expectations and standards permeate the students’ experience; they are an integral part of the school’s culture. Our intention goes beyond the students’ academic performance; we hope to develop the students’ creative and practical skills.
At Burntwood, we have a culture of high aspirations and ambition, encouraging and championing independent enquiry both through the broad, balanced and rich curriculum as well as enrichment activities. Most Able students are challenged to achieve their potential and grow into confident, resilient and reflective lifelong learners who can shape and articulate their own views and who have the skills and attributes to flourish in society.
Aspiration and Challenge beyond the Curriculum
Our classroom culture is supported by our Enrichment Programme, the extended curriculum and extracurricular activities. Our focus is on valuing creativity and broadening the students’ experience beyond the classroom by taking full advantage of the cultural capital London has to offer. We work closely with educational establishments for students to apply their learning and raise students’ aspirations, as well as inviting a range of inspiring guest speakers.
There are a wide range of subjects available in our extended curriculum for students to do further work in particular subject areas such as: Junior Sports Leadership Award (JSLA), Latin, Greek, Urdu, home languages and The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The Russell Group Programme has been designed to support and prepare our Most Able students in Year 11, 12 and Year 13 to build up the learning profile in supporting their applications to the elite universities. Additionally, we have a well-established master class programme in STEM subjects.
