Saturday Science Masterclasses
We are Eva and Sara and we were two of the many Year 7 students that attended a Saturday Science Masterclass this term. The theme of this was dissection! The first thing we learnt was about how different animals were dissected, and some tips on how to dissect. Then, for the exciting part…
We watched our teacher do a demonstration of a rat dissection and then we got to try it ourselves, whilst our teachers came around and helped us. We named our rat Sally and, although we were uncertain at first, we quickly came to think of it like performing surgery.
Sara’s favourite part was when she cut through the 2 layers of skin using scissors and a scalpel, whilst Eva enjoyed exploring her body and seeing the different organs. We both want to pursue careers in Science when we’re older. Sara would like to continue learning practical skills like dissection, and Eva thinks that this experience will help her in her desired field of wildlife biology!
