Sport & Physical Education

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to participate and compete in a range of activities and be encouraged to continue at least one sporting activity into adult life.

The school is fortunate enough to have facilities that can accommodate all lessons taking place on site. We have extensive facilities which include a 25m swimming pool, sports hall, 2 gymnasia, a fully equipped fitness suite, a playing field and 3 outdoor courts.

Competitions, Sports Day and participation in out-of-school events are features of this area. Our teams win regularly at local level in Wandsworth Schools competitions and students compete in a wide range of sports such as Athletics, Football, Basketball, Handball, Netball, Swimming and Tennis.

Burntwood has received a National 'Sportsmark' award from Sport England, in recognition of its commitment to and excellence within curricular and extra curricular sports provision. The school has been applauded for its consistent efforts to ensure young people are keeping fit and healthy. One of our many strengths is our links with the community and local sports clubs and agencies, who work with students in curriculum time but also within our extra-curriculum enrichment programme. These include Spencer Tennis, Herne Hill Harriers, Surrey County Cricket, Wimbledon Kickboxing and many others. The department also works closely with the Wandsworth Sports Development Team, Fulham FC and Garret Park, through whom we support and work alongside our feeder Primary Schools. The last two years we have developed a focus on disability sport and enter in many borough competitions for students in our school.

The department is continually developing its KS4 and KS5 provision. We currently run BTEC PE course in KS4. We have extended our curriculum provision providing vocational courses which include the Sports Leaders Award, First Aid course and others for Year 10 and 11, we also extend into KS5 with CSLA and enrichment options.
